Faculty Exchange at Assumption University of Thailand

I sincerely appreciate the opportunity to visit Assumption University
of Thailand (AU) through the recommendation of ACUCA. The visit was scheduled from June 3 to June 14, 2024, lasting approximately two weeks. During my time at AU, I conducted research and exchanged research ideas with the faculty and students. AU graciously provided me with accommodation and an office. The campus offers many restaurants and shops, making life at AU very convenient.

Adjusting to living in a foreign country posed some challenges, particularly in adapting to new cultural norms and navigating daily life. However, the supportive environment at AU and the convenience of the campus amenities helped mitigate these difficulties.

Finding universities willing to host was a significant challenge. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Mark Lan, the Coordinator of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs at Providence University, for assisting me in contacting member universities. Additionally, I express my gratitude to AU for hosting me during my stay.

This visit allowed me to get to know professors and students from the AU Business School and exchange experiences on paper submissions and marketing-related topics. Through this interaction, I gained fresh insights into English-speaking universities, the dynamics between teachers and students, and course arrangements, all of which are invaluable experiences.

I learned several important values from my study abroad experience, including the importance of cultural exchange, adaptability, and the significance of building international academic networks. This visit also deepened my understanding and appreciation of other Asian cultures, particularly Thai university education and teaching facilities.

The success of my faculty exchange program abroad was made possible by the contributions of several offices. I would like to thank Glen Chatelier, the Director of the Office of International Affairs at Assumption University of Thailand, and Mark Lan, the Coordinator of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs at Providence University, for their invaluable assistance in implementing this visit.

For fellow faculty members considering the ACUCA’s Faculty Exchange program, I recommend scheduling the visit within a two-week timeframe. This duration proved to be appropriate and manageable, allowing for meaningful engagement without being overwhelming.

I learned several important values from my study abroad experience, including the importance of cultural exchange, adaptability, and the significance of building international academic networks.

Overall, this visit was a remarkable opportunity that enriched my professional and personal growth, providing a deeper understanding of university education in Thailand and fostering lasting international relationships.
