In this exchange program, I chose two Japanese language courses and one general education course. I believe that these two Japanese language courses have been immensely beneficial for my Japanese listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. For instance, the articles in the textbook mostly revolve around social issues, naturally exposing us to more challenging vocabulary and expressions. In conversation classes, the teacher gives us ample time to practice Japanese, helping us identify the problems of speaking and solve them. And we would be required to do better in the next conversation class.
In the Business Japanese course, the most impressive and rare learning experience was the opportunity for students to visit a local Japanese company and gain insights into the inner workings of a company.
Moreover, since students here come from various cultural backgrounds, I have gained new knowledge through exchanges and gradually enjoyed interacting with people from different parts of the world. I’ve also made friends from various countries.
During the learning process, there’s also been a lot of exploration of Japanese culture. In my spare time, I visited shrines and temples, delving into their historical backgrounds. At times like these, I deeply appreciate my ability in Japanese, as it enables me to directly read local architectural history introductions and information.
While enjoying the joy of acquiring new knowledge and experiencing new things, it hasn’t been without its challenges. When I first arrived in the bustling metropolis of Tokyo, the complex transportation system and long walks were quite disorienting. In this regard, I owe thanks to straightforward transfer apps and the assistance of my friend who has been living in Japan for half a year and is familiar with tram schedules. Also, thanks for the extended periods of walking, which have significantly improved my physical fitness in just four months.
Through this exchange program, my life experiences have been greatly enriched in various aspects. It’s not just about learning; it has also influenced my personal values and perspectives on how I approach things. I’ve become even more curious about this world and more self-assured in facing any challenges or trying new things.
