Special Features

  • Chinese Language Center

As Tunghai University established the first Chinese Language Center (CLC) in central Taiwan in 1970, the CLC has been offering professional Chinese language training for exchange students, ranging from 6- to 15-hour weekly Chinese language classes. The intensive course aims to accelerate the development of Chinese language proficiency for short-term exchange students.

  • USR and SDGs

Tunghai University has endeavored to prioritize the University Social Responsibility for years and has established long-term collaborations with the neighboring communities to create a better ecological environment and enhance the education quality. To balance the learning resources, THU has worked with local elementary or high schools to develop various remedial programs for children from the underprivileged SES backgrounds and guide their academic progress toward brighter future. To respond to the challenges derived from the rapidly aging-population in Taiwan, THU connects the recourses from our university and local communities to develop five supporting systems. The College of Active Aging and Technology was created to improve the living quality of the elders mentally and physically.

In addition, achieving Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) is an essential feature of Tunghai University. To create a green and sustainable campus, Tunghai began to cooperate with Taichung City Government for revitalizing the Dongda river surrounding our campus in 2020 and continues to promote sustainable river restoration together. Tunghai has also established the Office of Sustainable Development to steer the overall accomplishments of Sustainable Development Goals in the long run.

With continuous efforts, Tunghai University has earned recognition with different awards, including three from “Global Views Magazine2022 University Social Responsibility Award” and eight from “Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards.” In addition, Tunghai University is ranked 101-200 globally in the Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings 2022. These achievements prove the efforts of Tunghai University for the University Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
